Mayor Jim Bush Chair of Waco Foundation SmartBabies Steering Committee

Mayor Jim Bush has agreed to chair the recently convened Waco Foundation SmartBabies Steering Committee, a group charged with developing a plan to address Waco’s poverty at the earliest possible point.  “There is such an opportunity to make a great, cost-effective impact at the very earliest stages of life, when children are born, and even before then, when mothers are pregnant.   Marty and I both believe strongly in this cause and look forward to helping with this effort.”  The SmartBabies Initiative will design a plan to increase Waco’s Early Childhood Quality of Life Index, which currently scores 41.6% on a 100 point scale.  “The good news is that we have a great measurement with the Quality of Life Index Report, and we know where to target efforts to make a great impact,” he added.
