The Chisholm Trail - the very name conjures up images of cowboys and longhorns. An important part of Texas folklore and history, the Chisholm Trail is a big part of Waco's history, too. Thanks to local philanthropists, life-sized sculptures of scenes from a Chisholm Cattle Drive will grace the banks of the Brazos River in Waco.
Western sculptor Robert Summers has been commissioned to complete the Waco Chisholm Trail Heritage Sculptures. A cowboy sculpture and a nearby bronze longhorn are only the beginning of the Waco Chisholm Trail Heritage sculpture project at Indian Spring Park. Three additional riders on horseback and a total of 25 longhorn cattle are expected to be featured, paying homage to Waco's role along the historic cattle-drive trail. Waco Cultural Arts Fest announced a million-dollar challenge grant from Waco philanthropists, Clifton and Betsy Robinson. Their donation will fund The Trail Boss, The Vaquero, and African American Cowboy on horseback accompanied by one longhorn. To complete the trail drive donations are needed for 22 more longhorn sculptures.

The Waco Doris Miller Memorial will commemorate the courage and actions of Waco native, Doris Miller. Miller, a World War II hero was recognized for his acts of bravery during the bombing of Pearl Harbor and became the first African American sailor to be awarded the Navy Cross. The memorial will be a place for reflection and learning for the community and nation.

Land donated by the William Cameron family in 1910 became known as Cameron Park, one of the biggest and best municipal parks in Texas. The 416-acre park is located in the heart of Waco, next to downtown. Cameron Park features scenic overlooks, wildlife and playgrounds, plus approximately 20 miles of nationally recognized trails that weave through the natural landscape. The park runs along towering limestone bluffs and overlooks the Brazos and Bosque rivers. From hiking and birding to disc golfing and picnicking, the park is an outdoor treasure.
Cameron Park Centennial Celebration fund allows for the continued improvement of the park as well as free jazz concerts and other events that the community can enjoy.
